I pretty much agree with Lovie on this.
I've read a few of his stories. They really don't grab me. Lots of people get caught up in the Cthulhu mythos. Alas, to me it's more or less: WTF?

The people who take HPL too seriously (as in .....cthulhu actually exists) tend to be a bit scary. But as metaphor the Cthulhu mythos does not lack for resonance, though not-so-PC. Lovecraftian prose, like Poe's writing, also has a certain splendor--not as dime-store-ish as some snobs think.
The stories of The Tomb continue to entertain me---a remarkable vision, even if odd , unsettling, bizarre, etc. Or peruse like The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath....strange, haunted beauty.
