"The tag-team reading was one of hundreds held around the world in celebration of Joyce's acclaimed work that chronicles the wanderings and rendezvous of Dublin characters in one single day: June 16, 1904.
Though Joyce's characters are common folk, he parallels their lives to classical characters of ancient Greek literature. For example, Joyce's main character, Leopold Bloom, a newspaper ad salesman, is Homer's hero Odysseus, wondering the world (Dublin). Hence, Bloom's episodic day, June 16, is called "Bloomsday."
